I know this sort of thing has been done before, notably the Nokia pieces by Universal Everything, but its fun to emulate and practice caustics and reflections with Mental Ray

About a year ago my brother and his mate started making ‘Subterranean Romanian Deathclub Music’ under the name Electroswedgehammer.  Unfortunately the niche in the market wasn’t quite big enough for the two of them to maintain their collabaration; in fact I think they were the niche,  but during their stint I produced these two pieces in the event that a CD may be produced.  It still may be…

If you’re intrigued to discover this new sound try here : http://www.myspace.com/electroswedgehammer, or my brothers new creations here : http://www.myspace.com/ekinflash

Ceramic Balls

This is a still from a little test animtion I am doing using mental ray again… the drawback from things looking this good and accurate is render times start to become almost ridiculous, especially if you only have one computer!  Test to be posted later in the week.

Studio Rendering

Another example of a studio mock-up.  I wanted to make everything look ceramic, so as to get a nice light reflection from the corners and bends of each object.

iPhone Wallpapers

Some more meanderings by myself, in this case I got a new i-Phone through the door so decided to create some nice, cool looking wallpapers for the background.  If you would like these then feel free to download and use too.  Techie part: I love to use Alpha Mattes, in this case its a few shapes matted into a black/dark-grey gradient with a colourful BG.  Add some Drop Shadow for depth and a Bevel Alpha to allude to there being a light source.

Culture Clash

I have just completed  work on a show called Culture Clash.  As with lots of my work it was on a tight budget and needed to be complete within a week.  I spent the first morning downing coffees and producing this logo.  The next five days I worked backwards form this to create the title sequence.  There was lots of coffee.

It’s Raining!

Some rain inspired work, both completely different in their setting and meaning, if there is one…. but rainy themed none the less. Techie Bit:  Although the shapes were created in 3DS Max, I decided to render them out with normal maps, and texture and light them in After Effects with minning De Normality.  Then I could composite these images with any background I wished, and still get reflections on the models from that particular setting, and position the lighting so it matched the BG light.

Afrobuzz Logo

For the recent re-branding of Voxafrica, I had to work quickly to create a new logo for the show ‘Afrobuzz’.  I immediatley thought of the presenters afro.   Made in After Effects.
